This year at parent-teacher conference, I had more parents thank me than ever before. Not the typically, polite "thank you" to end a conversation, but a true show of appreciation and gratitude.
A parent who appreciated my patience in helping her daughter who has fallen behind in class.
A parent who thanked me for my passion and energy in teaching his student. Saying he wished he had a teacher like me when he was in school.
A parent who said all she hears about at home is how great "Nikki Smith" is everyday. The feeling is mutual for her daughter.
I'm not sure why. Maybe I have changed? Maybe it's just a coincidence? Maybe the current political climate?
No matter the reason, it is so appreciated. More than you know.
WOW!!! What an uplifting night of conferences. That's awesome! Keep doing what your doing because it's working. :)
ReplyDeleteI would never say this to my young, unmarried teammates, but I see your blog picture and when you ask, "Maybe i have changed?" it makes me realize that because I am both a mom and a teacher, I know I am a better teacher. Somehow, being a mom makes me have so much more empathy for the children I work with and I give so much more to each child and each moment. Not that my unmarried, single co-workers don't, but they just don't in my opinion have that added mom wisdom. Based on your conference outcomes, I'd say you do have it! So glad you were acknowledged for being a kind teacher.
ReplyDeleteThat is so lovely and encouraging for you. A kind work from a parent goes a very long way for a teacher. Enjoy the rest of your year and keep doing what you are doing!! :)
